Authorized Gas Tester Training
Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) training is a specialized program designed to train individuals who will be responsible for testing and monitoring gas levels in confined spaces or areas where hazardous gases may be present. This training is critical for ensuring the safety of workers in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, mining, and manufacturing, where potential exposure to harmful gases is a concern.
Course Aims & Objectives
- To train participants to carry out gas testing in line with Standard Policies and Procedures.
- To explain the reasons for testing unknown atmospheres for toxicity, flammability and oxygen content.
- To instruct participants in the correct operation of gas testing instruments.
- To instruct participants in the limitations of gas testing instruments currently in use in operational areas.
- To instruct participants in the correct interpretation of readings obtained from gas testing equipment currently in use in oil & gas industry operational areas.
- Decide when and where gas testing will be required.
- State the definitions and abbreviations relevant to gas testing.
- Describe the general physical and chemical properties of Hydrocarbons and factors affecting these properties.
- Explain how Hydrocarbons behave if they escape into the atmosphere.
- Explain the types of gas test to be carried out.
- Describe gas testing principles.
- Explain the hazards and effects of flammable, toxic (H2S) and inert gases.
- Identify the hazards of oxygen deficiency and enrichment.
- Identify and use various types of gas detectors.
- State the pre-checks to be carried out on a meter.
